Mattresses rise up, form walls and wrestle with insomniacs of the night. Counting sheep, meditation, chamomile tea…can’t sleep! Desperation rises as six different characters struggle to ease first date nerves, madness and stress to get some shut eye.
Winner of the Canberra Critics Award (2004)
“[You] now have the good fortune to witness the energy, innovation, passion and unique talent that McCarthy and her performers channel into their live performances” – BMA Magazine

Fragile
Directed by Cadi McCarthy
Year groups: Year 3-9
Life can be pretty tough…
...unable to keep up with schoolwork, being bullied, parents fighting all the time, siblings picking on you. Thumb wrestling with an imaginary friend is way more fun! A young girl escapes into a world of her imagination with nothing but games and a whole pile of adventure. Incorporating puppetry, animation and visual design by Roly Skender, Fragile shows how to cope with feelings and relationships to find a positive way to move forward.

Peter is having trouble finding his place in the world. He decides he needs a break from his large and very noisy family. So Peter leaves home to go on an adventure. He sends home postcards telling about his travels and experiences along the way.
Peter finds himself in a number of precarious, sticky, uncomfortable and silly situations where he has to use his wit, stealth and will power to overcome them. Postcards Home is a coming of age story, where Peter realizes that home is not so bad after all and targets the experiences, fears and joys of leaving the home environment and venturing into the wide world for the first time.

A new work built specifically for the Buzz dancers, Ghostlight takes a long, hard look at passion, pain and wishful thinking. Sensuous and fierce, Ghostlight weaves together five dynamic sections that bounce off the individual dancers and their relationships within the group. Weare uses the unique qualities of the Buzz dancers to form their roles within the work, asking them to tap into something tender, sly, stubborn, hard-edged, and vulnerable; tools we all use in our constant search for contact and connection.
NYC-based choreographer Kate Weare creates intensely physical interludes between dancers that allow each artist's individuality to shine through, fuelling raucous and tender investigations of partnership, identity and autonomy. The New Yorker recently described Weare's work as "passionate and precise, headlong and unpredictable."
